Deterioration in law and order is creating uncertainty about the electoral environment: Jonayed Saki

Earlier, the meeting with seven political parties and Hefazat-e-Islam began at 5 pm at the official residence of the chief advisor at Jamuna. The political parties are Nagorik Oikya, People’s Solidarity Movement, AB Party, Ganaodhikar Parishad, LDP, Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Jatiya Ganofront.

Earlier, the chief advisor held a meeting with the leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) last Sunday. Coming out of the meeting, Jonayed Saki told reporters that they told the chief advisor two issues in the meeting. One is the electoral environment and the other is justice and reform. He said that the government has not been able to restructure the institutions. That is why the role of law and order forces and institutions has been questioned. This is creating uncertainty in the political circles about the electoral environment. Jonayed Saki said that they have advised the Chief Advisor to form a committee to coordinate the election environment with representatives of the political parties participating in the National Consensus Commission and representatives of the Election Commission. Regarding justice and reform, he said that it is important to make justice visible, as well as how the reform will be implemented. They have advised the current government to do the issues that are not related to the constitution but on which the parties have agreed, through an ordinance. Which the parliament will later give legitimacy to.

Jonayed Saki said that the people will decide on the issues that are related to the constitution but on which there is no consensus. Therefore, they have suggested that the next election be called the ‘Constitutional Reform Council Election’. He said that at the same time, the fundamental reforms of the constitution will be approved, while on the other hand, the national parliament will form the government and run the state for five years.
